TopicFraud and White-Collar Crime Academic Research Digest: Volume 2 

Come learn about the latest academic research on the topic of fraud and white-collar crime. The second volume of this research digest will summarize about a dozen peer-reviewed academic papers that focus primarily on theoretical explanations for fraud and other financial crimes. A particular emphasis will be placed on the fraud triangle: its origins, applications, and empirical support. A variety of alternative theories and concepts used to explain fraud will be also examined. The presentation will conclude with practical implications for fraud fighters.

CPE: 1 CPE 

CPE credits are based on a 50-minute hour.  CPE is offered through the ACFE as well as the Accountancy Board of Ohio (sponsor number CPE.00467).  Attendees must attend 50 minutes of the meeting and answer 3 polling questions during the meeting to validate attendance. 

Learning Objectives:

Promotion of improved fraud detection and deterrence and through expansion of knowledge in relation to the session's topic.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Pierre Rivolta (CFE) is an Associate Professor in the Criminology and Criminal Justice Department at Mount St. Joseph University. A native of France, Pierre earned a B.S. in Forensic Science and an M.Law in Criminal Justice from the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. He holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. Pierre’s primary teaching interests are the administration of justice and economic criminality. His scholarly pursuits center on the evaluation of pre-trial and post-conviction programs for special offender groups. More recently, Pierre has developed research interests in the nexus of fraud examination and education. Pierre currently serves on the ACFE Higher Education Initiative Committee.
