Speaker: Jason Shawver; Enforcement Investigator with the State Medical Board of Ohio

Topic: Detecting Human Trafficking Enterprises in Southwest Ohio 

The training will be focused on human trafficking enterprises in the illicit massage industry, and will include discussion of:

  • Tools to investigate illicit massage businesses and identify victims of human trafficking
  • An understanding of the Medical Board's jurisdiction in regulating massage therapy and assistance in investigations
  • A broad overview of financial practices/patterns that have been seen in trafficking cases 
  • An introduction to support resources for victims of human trafficking

CPE: 1 hour

CPE credits are based on a 50-minute hour.  CPE is offered through the ACFE as well as the Accountancy Board of Ohio (sponsor number CPE.00467).  Attendees must attend 50 minutes of the meeting and answer 3 polling questions during the meeting to validate attendance. 

Learning Objectives: Promotion of improved fraud detection and deterrence and through expansion of knowledge in relation to the session's topic.

Speaker Bio:  Jason Shawer has approximately 15 years of law enforcement and regulatory agency experience.  He is currently assigned to the State Medical Board of Ohio Sexual Misconduct Investigations Unit, and is coordinator of the Southwest Ohio Human Trafficking Working Group.
