Topic: Cargo Fraud: Current Threats and Red Flags for Investigators

Description:

This microlearning course provides an overview of cargo theft fraud, with a focus on how fraudsters exploit misreading and manipulation tactics to execute high-value thefts. Learn to identify common and emerging fraud schemes targeting cargo shipments, including fictitious pickups, identity spoofing, and insider collusion. The course examines red flags associated with fraud, such as false carrier credentials or manipulated documents. Investigative strategies and practical tools will be presented to help learners detect, analyze, and respond to cargo theft fraud with greater precision and efficiency.

CPE: 1 hour

CPE credits are based on a 50-minute hour.  CPE is offered through the ACFE as well as the Accountancy Board of Ohio (sponsor number CPE.00467).  Attendees must attend 50 minutes of the meeting and answer 3 polling questions during the meeting to validate attendance.

Speaker Bio: 

Eric Seebach began his tenure with The National Insurance Crime Bureau in June 2002, joining the organization as a Field Information Analyst.  During his first 9 years with NICB as the Field Information Analyst, Eric was responsible for all facets of intelligence gathering and analytical products produced by NICB relating to insurance fraud and vehicle theft for the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee and West Virginia.  As of September 2011, he was promoted to Special Agent located in Central Ohio, and in March 2018 he was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent located in Ohio.  Mr. Seebach’s current duties include the coordination and implementation of NICB services to member insurance companies and law enforcement partners throughout Michigan and Ohio.
